  • 3 Cups Flour
  • 1 tablespoon Salt
  • 1 tablespoon Pepper
  • 1 tablespoon Garlic powder (Not Garlic Salt)
  • (I added cayenne pepper)


  • 3 Cups Buttermilk
  • 3 Tablespoons Hot Sauce ( I used Texas Pete Red Hot Sauce )
  • (I added cayenne pepper)

      1. I mean, it could be worse, right? I could be on a nicotine jag!!

        Plus there’s the story about how an ornamental wooden ball on the clip of the candy thermometer I used, when the thermometer slipped unnoticed into the hot oil (re: near empty Bushmills bottle). Not until I turned to check the oil temperature and saw it had turned pink! The wooden ball is painted red and the paint had dissolved in the hot oil. $8 of peanut oil and 15 minutes, wasted!
        Started over with canola oil (all we had). The gravy was not as tasty as I expected and I’m sure it’s the oil switch! Anyway, always next time!
